SSH Into Ember

SSH'ing into Ember is useful knowledge that will allow to modify more advanced settings in Ember. You can use either USB or Ember's IP address to connect.  If you using USB make sure that you have the drivers installed.

Windows:

Windows doesn't have a native ssh client, so you'll need a third party software.  We recommend PuTTY, which you can download here.

  1. Connect a USB cable from your computer to Ember
  2. Open PuTTY
  3. Put 192.168.7.2 into the Address field, and 22 into the Port field
  4. When you see login as:, type root and press Enter. It may take more than one try.
  5. Once the connection is successful, you'll see a root@ember: prompt. From here, you can enter commands and the printer will receive them.

If you're on the same network as Ember, you have the option of not using a USB cable, and instead just Ember's IP address into the Address field instead of 192.168.7.2.

Mac/Linux:

  1. Connect a USB cable from your computer to the printer
  2. Open Terminal (it's in Applications under Utilities)
  3. Type ssh root@192.168.7.2 and press Enter
  4. If prompted, type yes to add the printer to the list of known hosts*
  5. Once the connection is successful, you'll see a root@ember: prompt. From here, you can enter commands and the printer will receive them.

If you're on the same network as Ember, you have the option of not using a USB cable, and instead just type ssh root@<Ember's network IP address> instead of ssh root@192.168.7.2 (Ember's USB IP address).

*If at Step 4 you receive an error, Ember may have changed its SSH key signature after an upgrade or some reboots. To fix the error, type the following command:

rm ~/.ssh/known_hosts
