How To Upgrade Ember's Firmware To Version 3.0

Ember firmware version 3.0 is a special kind of update. It fixes bugs from previous versions, but it also re-writes the low-level operating system. As such, it must be applied using a MicroSD card. You can either format the card yourself, or request one from us preloaded with the firmware (takes 5-7 business days).

To request a free upgrade card, fill out the Firmware 3.0 MicroSD Card Request Form.

This guide shows how to format a MicroSD card and load the version 3.0 update onto it. It also shows how to use the card to perform the update, whether you prepared the card yourself or received one from us.

NOTE

If your firmware is below version 3.0, you must update to version 3.0 using a MicroSD card, or you will disable your machine.

Once this process is complete and you've successfully upgraded your firmware to version 3.0, you will be able to perform firmware updates in the usual manner for future updates.

PART 2: HOW TO UPGRADE EMBER'S FIRMWARE TO VERSION 3.0

1. If you received a micro-SD card containing the firmware update with your Ember, locate the card. If you didn't receive a firmware update card, you can either request a pre-made card by filing an Ember support ticket, or you can manually prepare an upgrade SD card by following the procedure described in Part 2

2. Remove power from the Ember and insert the upgrade micro-SD card with the contacts facing down into the SD card slot on the Ember below the front panel display until the card clicks into place.

3. Apply power to the Ember.

4. After 20-30 seconds, the printer will display a message on its front panel indicating that the upgrade is in progress. After an additional 20-30 seconds, Ember's display guide you through the steps required to complete the upgrade.

5. Remove power from the Ember.

6. Push in the MicroSD card slightly and remove the card from the Ember.

7. Apply power to the Ember.
